Mercedes-Benz Shines Amidst Consumer Dissatisfaction

August 26, 2014 by admin Leave a Comment

Overall driver satisfaction with the auto industry is at it’s lowest point in 5 years, says the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI).  Claes Fornell, the ACSI Chairman and founder said “The ongoing erosion in customer satisfaction does nothing to help the economy’s ability to generate consumer demand.”

In spite of the overall gloom, Mercedes-Benz topped the newly released U.S. customer satisfaction survey list today…”Imports retain a significant advantage in driver satisfaction,” the report said.  Subaru and Lexus followed Mercedes-Benz…coming in second and third.  Buick was the only American car maker to even rank above the ACSI industry average.  Surprisingly, Audi and Acura came in at the bottom of the heap along with Dodge and Jeep.  Ford, Nissan, Hyundai and Chrysler all tied with a score just below the industry average.

Mercedes-Benz wins 2014 ACSI customer satisfaction survey

“Customer satisfaction with automakers is down for a second straight year,” said the report’s authors in a public statement. “The only brands to improve are domestic: Chevrolet and Buick.”  Given the recent GM recalls, it’s surprise on top of surprise. Cadillac however…also under the General Motors umbrella…dropped 6 percent below last year’s showing.

The underlying good news for American car makers says Edmunds.com…they continue to narrow the gap with their Asian and European competitors.

USA Word-of-Mouth Auto Winners: Kia, Honda, Hyundai

December 12, 2013 by admin

It’s no secret that word of mouth is the best form of advertising that almost any product can enjoy.  92% of global consumers trust the words of friends and family over any other form of advertising. In fact, advocates twice as likely to recommend a brand than is a typical customer* ( womma.org).   In an industry that has the most at risk and the most to gain, three foreign car makers have come up winners in the U.S. marketplace.

The new Brand Advocacy index, created by global management consulting firm Boston Consulting Group, is a strategic metric that gauges personal recommendations by establishing a direct correlation with top-line growth. And, unlike some other attempts to measure brand advocacy, BCG says it asked what people have actually done to advocate for or against a brand, rather than just asking what they thought.

Surveying more than 32,000 consumers in Europe and the U.S. about more than 300 brands in 12 industries, including banking, telecommunications, groceries and smartphones, in addition to automotive, the BCG only included the top 55 brands in the index.

Bottom Line:

  • Kia, Honda & Hyundai are the top auto brands receiving the best U.S. word-of-mouth recommendations, according to the new Brand Advocacy index.
  • Measuring how brands perform through personal recommendations…is the objective of Boston Consulting Group’s Brand Advocacy index.
  • Kia, Honda & Hyundai scored 63 percent…beating the auto industry average brand rating of 50 percent.

Supercars and attainable performance during day one of SEMA 2012 – CNET

(Credit: Antuan Goodwin/CNET)

If I were a betting man, I’d wager that the SEMA Show in Las Vegas is easily the largest aftermarket car show in the world. Hundreds of customized cars (dinged up daily drivers, glossy show cars, battle scarred race cars, and bench racing dyno queens) crowd the Las Vegas Convention Center every year. It’s nearly impossible to see it all, but that doesn’t stop us from trying. So after filling up an SD card with snapshots, we’ve sorted out the best of day one for your enjoyment.

The Camaros, Corvettes, Sparks, and Sonics that populated Chevrolet’s booth may look extreme, but a closer look at their upgrades list shows a plethora of parts that you can order from your local Chevy dealer. This year’s concepts could be in your garage by this time next year. And if you’re feeling impatient, you can always just buy one of two new production Camaros that debuted as concepts as early as last year.

New 2014 Chevy Corvette begins to take shape ahead of Detroit auto show | AutoWeek

Chevrolet has given us a few looks at the redesigned 2014 Corvette via a teaser video released this week. The one-minute video shows off a clay model, wheels, body panels and some driving footage from the driver’s point of view taken at the test track at General Motors’ Michigan proving grounds.

Why all the fuss? It’s the beginning of a huge promotional push for the new Corvette, designated C7, ahead of the car’s Jan. 13, 2013 unveiling the night before press-preview days start for the Detroit auto show.

We’ve also learned more about the V8 engine powering the 2014 Corvette. GM calls the 6.2-liter V8 engine “LT1,” and says it will use direct gasoline fuel injection to produce at least 450 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque — enough to push the new Corvette from 0-60 mph in under four seconds. The new small-block V8 engine will also use cylinder deactivation, a fuel-saving technology that shuts down four of the Corvette’s eight engine cylinders when demand for power is low. GM claims the 2014 Corvette C7 will be able to achieve 26 mpg on the highway. [Read More]
