Audi TT Roadster 2016 Reviews, News & Muse

Audi Prices 2016 TT Coupe and Roadster – CarandDriverBlog

by Alexander Stoklosa

Audi Prices 2016 TT Coupe and Roadster
-Audi’s stylish third-generation TT sports car goes on sale soon. How do we know? The company has released pricing for the base TT coupe and convertible, plus the sportier TTS coupe; Audi also has outlined the cars’ standard features, option packages, and more. The TT is all-new for 2016, sharing its MQB underpinnings with a plethora of recent VW Group products, and while it’s plain to see the car is as attractive as ever, we’ve driven all three versions—coupe, roadster, and TTS—and can report that they’re also as fun to drive as ever.

-For 2016, Audi didn’t change much on the TT’s standard-equipment list, adding only its new MMI Touch infotainment controller (with a touch-sensitive pad that can discern finger writing) and LED headlights to an already comprehensive roster. Carryover features include Quattro all-wheel drive, a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, automatic climate control, auto-dimming mirrors, a Homelink garage-door opener, heated 12-way power front seats, a leather and faux-suede-trimmed interior, a flat-bottom steering wheel with shift paddles, 18-inch wheels, and LED taillights. The TTS model adds sports seats with adjustable bolsters; 19-inch wheels; and special engine, exhaust, and suspension tuning.

–Audi Prices 2016 TT Coupe and Roadster
-Despite only minimal content changes, the 2016 TT coupe is $2580 dearer than last year’s model, ringing in at a rich $43,825. The roadster is $3500 more than the coupe, and $3080 more expensive than last year’s topless TT. The mighty TTS’s price barely budges—at $52,825, it’s just $730 pricier than the 2015 TTS. Yet-to-be-priced options include 19-inch wheels with summer tires for the TT, sport seats for the roadster, red brake calipers for the TTS, and a 680-watt Bang & Olufsen sound system.

2016 ABT Audi TT Review – GTSpirit

by Earl Karanja

When we first drove the new Audi TT it did not blow us away. It is trying too hard to please everybody and for those craving the sporty side it left a lot to be desired. Audi tuner ABT Sportsline promised me their package would solve exactly that. Following our recent test drive of the ABT RS6-R the company in Kempten invited us again for another test drive. This time they had prepared a ABT tuned Audi TT for us. Based on the Audi TT 2.0 TFSI ABT created a TTS rival with 310hp and 440Nm of torque. Compared to 230hp and 370Nm for the standard Audi TT 2.0 TFSI.

2016 Audi TT Priced From $43,825 – MotorAuthority

by Viknesh Vijayenthiran

2016 Audi TTAudi’s new TT, the nameplate’s third generation, made its debut more than a year ago. We’ve even had a chance to drive the car and now it’s finally ready for its arrival in U.S. showrooms. Today, Audi confirmed that the new TT, which arrives as a 2016 model, will be priced from $43,825, including a destination charge of…

2016 Audi TT [w/video] – AutoBlog

by Jonathon Ramsey

What came first, the metrosexual or the Audi TT? While it was close, the descriptor-turned-epithet preceded the 1995 concept car by one year. However, they were both notable cultural evolutions and they happened to work together perfectly. Hugh Grant, playing the cad Will Freeman in the 2002 film About a Boy, could not have chosen a better example of character than his silver TT.

A decade later, the original TT was still important enough that when rumors of the third-generation coupe began to surface in late 2012, the most exciting fantasy was that the 2014 coupe might “recapture some of the distinctiveness and impact” of a 16-year-old car (the TT came to market in 1998). Even speculation by dedicated Audi observers thought the brand would do something novel, even if not mimicry. The obvious takeaway: no one was going to be lighting any candles for the departed second generation. All of that is why when the first leaked image slipped onto the Internet, people began to get suspicious. When the third generation took the stage at the Geneva Motor Show, we could almost hear the digital deflation over the Ethernet, our poll results notwithstanding.

Yet it’s still the TT, and in spite of having seen its interior and virtual cockpit and clocked its specs, we couldn’t judge it before heading to Marbella, Spain to drive it. What we found out was while it’s better than the second generation, it’s still very much a TT.

2016 Audi TT/TTS lineup makes U.S. debut – KelleyBlueBook

The all-new 2016 Audi TT/TTS Coupe and TT Roadster, previously launched in Europe, are making their debut in U.S. trim at Los Angeles. As documented in our earlier coverage, the all-new Gen III TT set remains aluminum intensive but now is based on the Volkswagen Group’s latest MQB modular platform that trims about 100 pounds from the base car’s curb weight. The 2016 iteration is wrapped in bolder bodywork set off with standard LED lamps that give it a new look.  A fully revised suspension – including the Magnetic Ride dampers that are standard on the hotter TTS Coupe – endow all versions with better dynamics.

Sans top and two seats, Audi TT roadster equals coupe handling – CNET

by Wayne Cunningham
Audi launches the TT roadster and coupe simultaneously, the former offering open air driving and excellent handling, but less passenger and cargo room.

Compared to its coupe sibling, the 2016 Audi TT roadster loses two seats and reduces luggage room, but in this case, less feels like more as the roadster complements similarly excellent handling with the glory of an open sky overhead.

Polaris Slingshot – 3 Wheeled Extreme Asphalt Surfer

July 28, 2014 by admin Leave a Comment

Released just hours ago, this video is the next best thing to a test drive of the all-new Polaris Slingshot. It’s being called 2014’s most surprising, radical, innovative…trike, ATV, roadster, sports coupe, 3 wheeled wonder, car-motorcycle hybrid vehicle to be released for public consumption in years.  Probably inspired in part by the Morgan 3 Wheeler (which looks more like a WWII styled motorcycle & fused sidecar)…but comparing the Morgan to the Polaris Slingshot is more akin to placing Barney Rubble next to a hybrid of Darth Vader and the Predator creature (’87 Schwarzenegger film)…nostalgic vs. futuristic.

Polaris is already famous for making ATVs motorcycles, and snowmobiles …but the Slingshot will ultimately be compared to other similar competitive vehicles like BRP’s Can-Am Spyder, KTM X-Bow, Campagna T-Rex …and the already mentioned Morgan 3 Wheeler.  A clear and definite asset in those comparisons is the Slingshot’s price range: $19,999 to $23,999 …putting it much closer in financial reach than the price tags of the other competitors.  Also built in to that price is a two-year unlimited-mileage warranty…with an option to extend three more years, for a total of five.

Powering the Polaris Slingshot is a GM 2.4-liter Ecotec four-cylinder engine…located in front of the craft.  It has a 5-speed manual transmission that produces 173 horsepower and 166 pound-feet of torque to the single rear wheel …via its  carbon-reinforced drive belt.  Polaris has yet to reveal performance specs…because that the norm in the motorcycle maker realm…where speed is highly dependent on the rider skills & experience.  But the Slingshot weighs in at a mere 1,700 pounds, so your speed expectations should be unbridled.  Stature of the Sling shot measures 150 inches long, 77.6 inches wide and 51.9 inches tall…and rides on a wheelbase of 105-inches with a 69-inch front track that sits just 5 inches off the ground…so slicing through the wind at a fast clip should be even easier…especially since there’s no roof and a modest windshield.  With all those speed inducing stats, you might be worried about stopping.   Well,  11.8-inch vented disc brakes all the way around should have no trouble stopping you on a dime.

Family Cars 2014 – Top 10 Picks

April 6, 2014 by admin Leave a Comment

Today’s concept of what defines a modern family has changed and blurred so much that delineating target markets for family vehicles has become a bit more challenging.  But where there’s a profit motive, there’s a way! …and the big car makers are hardly short on ideas.  Still…minivans, SUVs and family sedans probably cover a large demographic majority of multiple person families.  So here’s a group of highly likely choices from Kelly Blue Book…a highly trusted vehicle information resource…for top pics on the best 2014 Family Cars.

KBB produces Expert Ratings on more than 300 vehicles of all types every year…and narrowed that list down to 21 vehicles from several classes they believe  to be first round front runners for top-notch family fun-mobiles.  Each of the nine KBB editors received a list of candidates, then individually voted for up to 20 of them, and they were given the opportunity to nominate any additional vehicles that they felt should be included.  The responses were culled and the votes tallied…producing the list of vehicles that received four or more votes were invited to participate in our driving-and-usability test.  Mainstream models from each manufacturer were requested for the lab & road tests.  The challenge was being careful not to give favoritism to heavily equipped vehicles, because KBB wanted the test to be as “real-world” representative as possible.

What emerged is a list of seven sedans, six small SUVs, five midsize SUVs, two minivans, and one hybrid wagon, from a total of 11 different brands. With one representative vehicle from the list of 21 on site at the Kelley Blue Book offices…their staff installed and uninstalled car seats, loaded up the cargo area with various objects, and even brought their kids down to climb in and out, and maybe test out the rear-seat entertainment. When all was said and done…and results tallied…the cream of the crop rose to the top.

Here’s the resulting 10 Best Family Cars of 2014…plus two more:)

Audi A3 for 2015 – News & Reviews

March 10, 2014 by admin Leave a Comment

A small family car produced by the German automaker Audi since 1996, the Audi A3 is a third-generation model.  The first two generations of A3 were based on the Volkswagen Group A platform, which they share with several other models such as the Audi TT, Volkswagen Golf, Volkswagen Caddy and Volkswagen Touran and others.  The third-generation A3 uses the Volkswagen Group MQB platform…which is the company’s strategy for shared modular construction of its transverse, front-engined, front-wheel drive automobiles.  We’re not Audi A3 history buffs necessarily…but the more exciting news is the A3 for 2015.  Here’s a collection of the best reviews, first looks and test drives.

Video First Look: 2015 Audi A3 – Kelley Blue Book

Audi was kind enough to give us early access to their new 2015 A3 sedan. We’ll have a full review coming soon but for now…

2015 Audi A3 2.0T Quattro EPA Ratings Out, Gets 33-mpg Highway – Car and Driver Blog

As compact German sports sedans go, the 2015 Audi A3 2.0T Quattro has adequate, but not stellar, fuel economy. The EPA rates the 2.0T with Quattro all-wheel drive—for now, the top powertrain until the hot-rod version S3 arrives—at 24-mpg city and 33-mpg highway.

2015 Audi A3 TDI sedan

The A3 comes with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic on all trim levels. All-wheel drive comes standard on models with the 220-hp, 2.0-liter turbo four and is unavailable on models with the 170-hp, 1.8-liter turbo four. We expect to see a new 150-hp, 2.0-liter turbo-diesel four-cylinder to be offered in the A3 as well, for the fans of oil burners out there.

2015 Audi S3 First Drive – MotorAuthority

The S3 comes from the new A3 family of cars, which land ashore next year in the U.S. in all sorts of body styles. There’s the sedan, an Avant wagon, a pretty convertible, and a plug-in hybrid hatchback all to come–and we’ll throw in the compact Q3 crossover, which isn’t as precisely related to the others, but close enough for short attention spans. Audi’s new compact cars will go on sale about six months after rival Mercedes-Benz launches its new 2014 CLA 250 compact four-door and its 355-hp CLA 45 AMG companion piece and the GLA crossover, which it totally lumps together with the others.

New 2015 Audi A3 boasts 4G connected tech – CNET

2015 Audi A3

LOS ANGELES — Mansions, yachts, limousines: luxury often equates to large, but Audi has other things in mind with its new A3 model. The smallest car in its US lineup, the all-new 2015 A3 sedan gets features found on Audi’s flagship sedan, the A8.

US buyers may be a little confused by the new A3, which has gone from a wagon body style to a sedan, and skipped a model year in the process. Audi intended to market a sedan here, a more popular body style, but development of the three- and five-door hatchbacks took precedence in other markets.

The wait seems to be worth it, as the new A3 packs some of Audi’s most cutting-edge tech.

2015 Audi A3 gets augmented reality app in place of owners manual [w/video] – Autoblog

There have been a few, seemingly half-hearted, attempts at reinventing the owner’s manual – that thick stack of bone-dry information that you only look at if you’re well and truly stumped. Hyundai tried swapping in iPads with the Equus, which didn’t really take, while Chrysler switched its owner’s manuals to digital form in 2010. Chrysler subsidiary Dodge even released a smart phone app that included all the info contained in the paper manual.

Audi, though, may have taken things to their logical conclusion – augmented reality. While it’ll likely be more practical once Google Glass and other wearable tech is adopted on a wide scale, augmented reality allows users to project information on scenes, usually through a phones camera, which is how Audi does it.

Called eKurzinfo, the app looks through your phones camera to identify and explain different parts of the car. According to Metaio, the app’s developer, the app recognizes 300 different parts of the car.

We had a Tesla Model S here in the shop last month at Morgan Hill Auto Body for some minor cosmetic repairs.  Little did we know just how popular among the affluent this Fremont made all electric vehicle had become.  Yes,  we knew that the Model S had been dubbed as Motor Trend’s prestigious 2013 Car of the Year.  What we weren’t aware of is just how many of America’s affluent neighborhoods where it has also become the TOP selling vehicle: 8 of the top 25 wealthiest ZIP codes to be exact.

Ominous Noise Fixed – 2013 Tesla Model S Long-Term Road Test – Edmunds

“Our 2013 Tesla Model S is making an ominous noise under acceleration and deceleration. It originates from the rear of the car and seems to be getting worse.” That was our last post addressing this mystery.

Here is how it was fixed…

“We replaced the entire drive unit,” began our service advisor. “Tesla doesn’t want us diagnosing the problem here, so I can’t answer your question of exactly what happened. It gets put into a box and shipped off. Sorry I don’t have any more information.”  Read More

Tesla posts $38 million third-quarter loss – AutoNews

Tesla Motors Inc. posted a net loss of $38 million on $431 million in revenue during the third quarter — a steeper loss on slightly higher revenue than in the second quarter.

Last, but not least, Green Car Reports chose the Tesla Model S as its “Best Car to Buy 2013”

From styling that many onlookers assumed was the newest, latest, sleekest Jaguar–a compliment indeed for a new carmaker–to smooth, silent acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds (in the Performance version), the Tesla Model S is more than an impressive new green car.

It’s an impressive car. Period. The fact that it’s green is almost secondary.
